<DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>Indigenous Cultural ConceptsAnnual Report 2024For Media Island InternationalOur year began with organizing for water rights in which the Navajo Nation pushed for a settlement in the U.S. Supreme Court. A settlement to the Colorado River. Our grassroots communities have pushed to not settle at this time due to the history of which the Supreme Court has never in the history ever ruled in our favor, which exercises the Injustices against Indian Country in the court systems. Indigenous Cultural Concepts was able to voice against this settlement along with grassroots communities over 10 public hearings we were able to attend, and the courts and the Navajo Nation did not settle it. This would have taken a big percentage for the usage of the water. As of March 2024, ICC also began to work with project 491, which includes 5 different communities on the New Mexico side of the Navajo Nation along highway 491 to survey to identify the needs and concerns of the communities. Based on the outcome of the surveys, roads, waterways, and catch for watering livestock and to fed into the farming areas. to develop water diversion projects from hilltops into ponds, roads need improvements from heavy winter rains and snow melt run offs, also, for a slaughter house to be built for animals to process meats to be sold from this we are still trying to find a location to have it be put. This project's target workforce and training development will be working in the developing areas. Currently, we are working with Indigenous People from Peru in South America on water harvesting and preservation. Water Education for small children and their parents on making drinking water is still one of the projects we are still participating in the communities. This is in Utah, New Mexico, and Arizona, in which our Reservation is in. Our goal here is to educate families on the benefits of drinking water over sugary drinks for better health. So, we develop ways to make drinking water more interesting. We also have been engaged in climate change listening sessions and can pass out water filtering pitchers for household use and are looking into getting some watering stations in different communities. We are still working on this. In Arizona, we are working on Land and Water Restoration Projects, training the youth, and we will be hosting a hemp-crede building. This is a hands-on project on how to make hempcrete to build housing and insulation. We are also collecting roots and wild foods and processing them, and we are shearing sheep at sheep camps and teaching wool processing. We will be sponsoring a herbal dye making for making colors for fabrics and wool.</DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>

<DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>THE WOMEN OF COLOR IN LEADERSHIP MOVEMENT (www.facebook.com/The-Women-of-Color-in-Leadership-Movement- The Women of Color in Leadership Movement (WCLM), was founded in 2015 and became sponsored by Media Island in 2016, within that short time we were able to accomplish much of our goals for the year that helped us build our foundational roots. We have been able to have monthly support group meetings, and support one another with shared resources, ideas, fundraising, training and organizing. WCLM has participated in various cultural events that support our communities, such as our local activists and their events. Our newly developed partnerships connect with both local and international organizations that focus on women of color and their empowerment and leadership. We have participated in workshops, cultural festivals, trainings and lectures, and have been able to send some of our members to these events. We have been able to support our members in leading their own workshops and presentations as well as supported them in their cultural artistic efforts. We have also been able to offer some support to students of the Evergreen State College, who were affected by the current racial tensions on campus, and in the community of Olympia. Our future goal is to bring more guest speakers such as bell hooks, Tim Wise, spokesperson and activist on racial issues, as well as women from our local Native tribes. These speakers would be able to address many of the issues around race, class, and gender, as well as the effects of colonization on Black and Brown peoples. We also hope to send a group of the women to conferences and workshops statewide and to able to make international connections as well to help foster their resiliency tools. The funds the WCLM received from Media Island breakdown as follows: $13,000 -</DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>

<ExplanationTxt>MEDIA ISLAND INTERNATIONAL Our podcast development is still in the works. Many people travel to participate in the cultural offerings of Media Island International. People come not only from Olympia and the surrounding area but Tacoma and Portland as well. Like The Negro Motorist Green Book, this project will create a network of safe, accessible green spaces and services for the undeserved Black community in Olympia. By providing information on community gardens, Black-owned farms, and other green spaces outside of Olympia, and Tacoma and Portland, the project broadens the community's access to safe travel destinations, green space, and essential services. Resources in the map will also include Olympia-based job training at Black-owned businesses, youth participation in cultural events, services for families, and education on emergency management, safety, and indoor air quality. We hope t be able to continue this work, in order to help with the positive development of our community. MEDIA ISLAND INTERNATIONAL LIBRARY (www.mediaisland.org) Media Island International maintains and is working to improve a Pro-Active Library and cultural center here Olympia, Washington's state capitol. Books, magazines, journals, video and audio tapes, electronic files as well as hard copy files of documents and books on subjects relating to the organization's mission, including cultural survival, human and civil rights, international law, women's issues, racial inequality, and more.</ExplanationTxt>
