In 2024, we received $1,204.28 from LexisNexis, $966.12 from Thomson Reuters, and $121.14 from W.S. Hein, for a total of $2,291.54. We always have, however, at least one and often several other substantial projects that do not fit within line 15, though they do mesh with our publishing program. In 2024, we produced and shared several non-print products complemented our print program, including the latest in our series of annotated bobbleheads of Justices of the U.S. Supreme Court that are often used in classrooms by law teachers, and displayed in libraries (it was Justice Elena Kagan), the fourth in our series of jigsaw puzzles with fairly sophisticated legal content (it involved a deep dive into the history of gerrymandering), and several smaller items designed to mesh with other publishing projects: $10,892.70. The rest of our "Other expenses" are in line with support for our normal combination of publishing and special projects designed to advance understanding and appreciation of the law: (1) Our regular monthly payment of DC sales tax: $241.80; (2) Government fees (renewing our charitable organization registration in Ohio, a filing fee in D.C., and renewal of the trademark for one of our publications): $500.00; (3) IT fees (website, cloud storage, software): $2,005.86; (4) Research materials (books, subscriptions, and primary sources used in our publications and other products; this varies widely from year to year, depending on particular projects we are working on for the future, and this was -- surprisingly -- a second small year in a row, which means this number may well trend up next year): $5,720.69; (5) Equipment and supplies (a bigger number than in the past, as we move some mailroom operations in-house to save money and increase flexibility): $3,798.62; (6) Travel and meals: $1,959.65; (7) Statutory agent fees: $49.00; (8) Paypal fees (an increasing number of subscribers pay online): $2,658.86. Total: $27,827.18. Note: Events were not an expense this year, mostly because our annual program at The Mysterious Bookshop in New York, for our "ACD Society" literary project, occurred late enough in January this time around that those expenses hit us in 2025, which means there will probably be a large uptick in this line on our financials (and tax filing) next time.
