Form 990, Part XI, Line 8 : Prior Year Adjustments During 2023, the Organization applied for the Employee Retention Tax Credit (ERTC) for eligible compensation and qualifying expenses paid during the second and third quarters of 2021. The credit for the second quarter of 2021 was received and was recognized as ERTC revenue in the statement of activities and changes in net assets for the year ended September 30, 2023. During 2024, the Organization was notified by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that their application for the third quarter of 2023 was denied. The Organization elected to refund the ERTC funds via the IRS Voluntary Disclosure Program which provides relief to Organization's who were previously paid and later discovered they were not eligible requiring Organization's to pay back eighty five percent of the credit previously received. As a result, the Organization made the decision to refund $297,259 to the IRS, which resulted in a restatement to the 2023 financial statements and the amount to be refunded was included in accounts payable and accrued expenses at September 30, 2024 and 2023, respectively.
