I had trouble creating a 990 filing and when I called the IRS at 877-829-5500 to clarify the issue, I was told we were on the calendar year fiscal year and that I should not file for the fiscal year I was planning on (10/1/23-9/30/24), but for 1/1/24-12/31/24, which had a different due date for filing (5/15/25). I was concerned about this issue because it created a gap period that would not be covered on our new 990 filing for the period 10/1/23-12/31/23, since our previous 990 filing had an ending date of 9/30/23, so I called back again and got the same answer from a different representative. I spoke with another IRS representative (Badge #1000144786) on 2/21/25 who realized there was a fiscal year error and rectified the issue. At that point, I was able to go in and file the correct 990 period, but it was passed the due-date (2/15/25). I filed as soon as possible once the issue was rectified. I also had several issues with the 990 online system that required contacting and waiting for 990 Online Support to make some adjustments to their system- I had an issue on 2/21 that was resolved in 3 hours, and another issue on 2/22 that was resolved in 2 days on 2/24, at which point I was able to finalize and submit the form.
