It operates as the trust fund for the Iowa State Fair Foundation which is charged with raising funds for the renovation and preservation of the Iowa State Fairgrounds. The mission of the trust fund is to accumulate funds which can serve as an endowment for future capital needs, not current infrastructure needs. To that end, solicitations for the trust fund focus more on estate/planned gifts rather than current need contributions. In the past 5 years, the organization has received donations from over 27 individuals, including several larger estate gifts. Two of those individuals (one a stock gift and the other an estate gift) donated a large sum and therefore a significant portion of their donations were excluded as they exceeded 2% of the total contributions for the five year period. However, the organization had 25 other contributors who donated smaller sums. One donor serves on the board of directors for the governing body of the organization. His gifts are smaller required minimum distributions from retirement accounts which average under $1500. All of our governing board operate independently and are not influenced by the trust funds constituents. Board members are from a broad range of diverse backgrounds from across the State of Iowa and serve after being elected by members of the Iowa Association of Fairs.
