Our sole purpose is to operate our annual event to generate revenue by selling participant entries to the public and sponsorships to local business so the proceeds can be donated to local organizations and programs that benefit youth. We focus on organizations and programs that reach at-risk youth, basic youth needs, youth sports and activities, and prevention and diversion programs. We have five beneficiary levels: Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, Discretionary, Service. We choose our beneficiaries (grantees) annually through an application process. From our program (event) proceeds we distributed grants to 14 beneficiaries: Three Primary, three Secondary, one Tertiary, five Discretionary, and two Service. Our 2022 participant numbers and revenue increased, so COVID-19 had little to no impact on our event. Our event organizing committee were volunteers from the community, but fiduciary responsibility fell under Partners. In 2012, just before our event registration opened, the executive director of Partners informed us that Partners was dissolving. Our event committee/board was committed to the event and our mission, so we continued operating as we always had, but under 12 Hours of Mesa Verde (vs. Partners). We donated the proceeds to other nonprofits. We are solely volunteer operated and most of us have other full-time responsibilities in addition to the hundreds of hours spent planning our event. Our (my) failure to file was an oversight outside of our (my) traditional event responsibilities and not intentional. Correcting our (my) oversight has been consuming. We have not been contacted by the IRS, but we are taking all actions necessary to be compliant now and in the future.
