Gardening & Environmental Education Gr. 2-6 students held after school. Programs planned by the GC Youth Chair. Chaperoned by a Memorial School Teacher Club Advisor. High School National Honor Society teens from Warren Hills Reg. HS, Gr. 9-12 assist.7 COMMUNITY OUTREACH & GARDEN EDUCATION with booths including environmental & gardening information at these events: NABA Butterfly Count & HOSPICE BUTTERFLY RELEASE (KNMBG Butterfly Garden) STEAM FESTIVAL (Memorial School) plus Washington Borough town events Kid???s Day/ Beach Day/ Organization Day/ Farmers??? Market, National Night Out (coordinated by the Wash. Police Dept.) 2 SMALL POLLINATOR TOWN GARDENS were planted with native plants by youth volunteers at these sites: The Washington Boro Fire Dept. and the Midtown Plaza. Our KNMBG Youth Chair served as a Gold Award Project Advisor for two Girl Scout Gold Award Projects. Project # 1: Planning and planting a Bee Garden at the Washington Boro Firehouse and coordinating a Children???s Bee Education program. Project 2: Constructing 31 ten-ft bridges in the Pohatcong Native Arboretum trails.The YOUTH CORP OF PHILLIPSBURG gardened 7 dates and assisted in building a frame to hold a gravel base for our new storage shed. A BEEKEEPER, Greg Blackwood, provided two educational programs The WARREN COUNTY PARKS FOUNDATION provided their Head Naturalist, Jennifer Correa-Kruegel as a presenter of one educational program at a Youth Garden Club Meeting. We maintain A FREE LITTLE LIBRARY - part of an Eagle Scout Project, in our reading patio. Our Youth Chair adds new books as needed with themes of gardening, the environment, nature, art, and outdoor based stories. Our OUTDOOR KNMBG ANNOUNCEMENT BULLETIN BOARD contains educational garden and environmental information with GC Registration forms, Activities, & fundraising updates, pollinator info, & garden rules. ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE KAREN NASH MEMORIAL BUTTERFLY GARDEN We maintain an ALL-VOLUNTEER, quarter-acre certified schoolyard wildlife habitat garden with youth & adults AWARDS: The Garden Club of NJ announced the KNMBG Garden Club was selected to receive the 2024 ???Garden Club of NJ President???s Award,??? with a $1,000 grant pledged for the summer 2024 recognizing the garden as a project that encourages families and children to garden together outdoors. The KNMBG Butterfly Garden is five times Nationally Certified as a Wildlife Habitat and Pollinator Garden. The newest certification obtained from the National Wildlife Federation qualifies the garden as part of the initiative called the Warren County Commissioners Conservation Challenge. The KNMBG Butterfly Garden is registered with the No. American Butterfly Assoc. Our garden is NABA certified as a Monarch Garden + a Butterfly Garden. Donaldson Farms germinated seeds for us. We gave away pollinator plants at the June Green Fest.
