Essentially, individuals and families who were found to be in need and underserved by existing programs were deemed eligible for assistance. These included people who had lost their jobs, had lost their residences (owned and rented), or had faced financial crisis due to medical or financial circumstances beyond their means, or otherwise were in distress from events in their lives. Many were unsheltered. Records of expenditures for these programs were kept by Aloha in Action. Grants for Kula and Lahaina fire victims were distributed to individuals and families at designated relocation centers and emergency relief locations across the island. Many people were helped through the fire relief efforts. Assistance was in the form of electronic debit cards, checks, food, clothing, beds, bedding, meals, school supplies, tents, stoves, cooking utensils, tarps, blankets, personal hygene supplies, toiletries (continued) Schedule I, Part I, Line 2 Kula and Lahaina Hawai'i, fire relief victims assistance Community underserved and unsheltered Form 990, Header, Line A In service to Aloha (Love), all of the donations are from individuals who feel called to assist in providing a greater and ease-filled life for all life forms, ie arts, culture, education, humanitarianism, environmental quality, protection, beautification, spiritual development, civil rights, advocacy and basic needs. Also, to assist those who have experienced hardship, including the Maui fires and natural disaster (August 8, 2023) Form 990, Header, Line B We continue to support the most vulnerable members of our community. This includes providing food, materials, supplies, utensils, meals, clothing., advocacy, nurturing, wellness, individual volunteers for families, women, children, elderly, unsheltered, homeless and those affected by change in their lives (Kula, Lahaina fire relief, natural disasters, health, employment) in our community. Environmental workdays, ocean conservation and restoration, plant and cultural restoration projects, distribution of supplies to fire relief victims, community gardens and education. We continue to support the well-being of individuals, families and communities. Collaboration with a diverse array of community members to support Native Hawaiian health, education and cultural restoration. Form 990, Header, Line C Aloha in Action has been intensively involved in the relief and recovery effort following the Maui fires that occured on August 8, 2023. The Maui community is still reeling from the fire damage and the cascading effects of the fire (including homelessness, loss of employment, health impacts, mental and physical injuries to victims, loss of revenue and the deleterious effects on the island's economy). We have frankly been overwhelmed by the vastness of the needs that have occurred and continue to effect our citizens every day since. A large portion of the residents are still unsettled, moving often from one place to another, chasing housing opportunities, employment offers and schooling placement for their children. Our relief assistance must cover all communities on the island, and delivery of relief supplies expands as the population moves about. Additionally, the process of locating, transporting and accounting for the goods and services used in this effort has been incredibly difficult. The turnover of volunteers has also complicated our work. Because of the intensity of the relief effort, our work has focused on providing an uninterrupted flow of goods to the needy. We are a small but dedicated organization who relies on the support of the community and the tireless efforts of wonderful volunteers who are committed. Prior tax filings are also provided to any member who requests an opportunity to review those dcuments, upon request. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12c Written copies of the conflict of interest policy are provided to each member at the annual meeting and the policy is discussed. members are reminded of their obligation to disclose potential conflicts of interest and are invited to ask questions about specific situations that may occur. Each member is required to sign a written statement acknowledging receipt of a copy of the conflict of interest policy at the annual meeting.
