During 2023, there were 36,862 visits to the library and 155,447 materials were circulated. HCL provides various enrichment programs for the residents of Hampton Township. These include a summer reading program for children, a weekly children's story hour and numerous programs throughout the year for teenagers and adults. During 2023, 1,070 children and teenagers participated in the summer reading program. 164 children's programs were presented with a total attendance of 4,434 and 94 adult programs were presented with a total attendance of 1,393. 3230 HCL provides four (4) computers for public usage, including free internet access. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C The Conflict of Interest Policy is reviewed annually for compliance with the Director and The Board of Trustees. It has been determined that there are no conflicts of interest. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15 The Library's Board of Trustees determines annually the compensation of the Director. Data obtained from peer entities is utilized in the determination of compensation. Documentation of the Trustees determination is retained. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 19 The documents are available upon request. Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19 This information is available upon request to the public. Form 990, Part X, Line 10A The value of the books and collections are not readily determinable. Many items are continually donated and the Library does not capitalize these items. The total value of the books and collections is estimated to be less than $50,000. The Library does not own any land or buildings. During 2023, the Library purchased new carpet and blinds for $24,576 and are capitalized and being depreciated over the useful life. Form 990, Part XII, Line 2C Due to the size of the Board of Trustees, the Treasurer is charged with the oversight of the audit and recommending to the Board the selection of an independent accounting firm. Form 990: Part V, Line 3a The Library does not engage in any unrelated trade or business and is exempt from filing Form 990-T. Part VI, Line 19 These documents are available upon request. I am new to the Board of Trustees as Treasurer for the Hampton Community Library. Up until this year, it has been the practice to file Form 8868, for the extension of Form 990 in early May, and to file Form 990 prior to November 15th. All extensions and filings in prior years have been completed in a timely manner. With that said, during the transition of Treasurer's this year, the filing of Form 8868 in May 2024 to request an extension, was overlooked. This omission was an oversight and not intentional. Going forward, the Board of Trustees for the Library has put controls in place to ensure that any request for an extension and the filing of Form 990, will be completed in a timely manner and in advance of the due date. On behalf of myself, the Treasurer, and the remaining Board of Trustees, please accept this request for forgiveness of the late filing Form 8868 and corresponding Form 990 for the Hampton Community Library for the tax year ending 2023.
