Footnote for uncertain tax position under FIN 48 (Part X) The Financial Accounting Standards Board has issued guidance on accounting for uncertainty in income taxes and the Organization has adopted this guidance. The Organization has evaluated its tax provision and any estimates utilized in its tax returns, and concluded that it has taken no uncertain tax positions that require adjustment to the financial statements to comply with the provisions of this guidance. Interest and penalties associated with uncertain tax positions will be recognized in income tax expense, if required. The 990 draft is then submitted to the Board of Directors for approval. After approval, the Form 990 is submitted to the IRS. (the Organization) was established as a Florida not-for-profit corporation on February 21, 1983. On March 18, 1987, the Organization amended its Articles of Incorporation to change its name to Deaf Service Center of Southwest Florida, Inc. Subsequently, on March 8, 2018, another amendment was filed to rename the Organization to the Sally J. Pimentel Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center, Inc.The Organization is a community-based organization whose mission is to empower Southwest Floridas deaf and hard of hearing citizens and their families through education, advocacy, and community involvement. The Organization provides the following programs and services: Sign Language classes; community education and outreach; assistive technology; support groups for deaf women, and parents of deaf children; afterschool Deaf Youth Program for elementary, middle, and high-school-aged children; transportation services; employment coaching; deaf mentoring; independent living skills, Citizenship and Drivers License classes for the deaf; and advocacy services.
