The CCU is responsible for assisting EAGLE's partners in Senegal, the Ivory Coast, Togo, Cameroon, Gabon, the Congo, Uganda and Guinea. The CCU members provided dedicated and continuous support and assistance to each of the other EAGLE entities that receive grants to advance conservation in their respective countries. The grant funding resulted in the following accomplishments: presenting various modules on combatting wildlife crime during 3 training sessions at the Niokoloko Koba National Park for 29 park officials in May, which focused on wildlife crime, the wildlife law, techniques in identifying and concealing wildlife contraband, writing of offence statements and the rights of the defense; participating by the Coordinator and the Head of the Legal Department in training for Heads of Airport Anti Trafficking Units from Senegal, Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso and Togo at which they presented various modules on combating wildlife crime during the training sessions; and a presentation by the Coordinator on corruption and wildlife crime during the 34th Interpol Wildlife Crime Working Group Meeting in December, in Lyon, which was attended by 165 people of 56 nationalities, including 145 government representatives and 20 NGOs including EAGLE. Grant funds resulted in the following accomplishments: LAGA assisted at arresting 13 traffickers resulting in 13 court cases; the seizing of 271 kg of pangolins scales from all three species in the country, the conviction of 20 traffickers who received all or at least one of the following; prison sentences, fines and damages; significant national media coverage including nearly 200 radio and written articles; participation by the Deputy Director at a pangolin conservation planning workshop, that brought together stakeholders in pangolin conservation in Ghana and focused on producing a West African regional action plan for pangolin conservation to be validated and adopted by the range states and other pangolin conservation stakeholders; participation by the Deputy Director on a panel on the role of law enforcement in pangolin conservation; a meeting with 3 officials from the US Departments of Justice and Agriculture to discuss wildlife law enforcement and illegal logging in the country. Sub-Saharan Africa 1 31600 Wire transfers 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 Schedule F, Part I, Line 2 EAGLE US accomplishes its charitable purposes by making grants to nonprofit organizations working in key African countries to support programs that are designed to increase wildlife law enforcement effectiveness, produce effective deterrents against wildlife crime, and combat the illegal wildlife trade so detrimental to the survival of elephants, apes and other threatened species. The projects we fund follow a particular proven method ("the EAGLE model"), generally consisting of the following elements: investigations, including selecting , hiring and training undercover investigators to successfully identify and infiltrate large-scale, illegal wildlife trafficking operations in order to develop concrete evidence that can be used to bring them to justice in accordance with national and international laws in force; Operations, including providing assistance to national law enforcement in bringing about arrests and supervising law enforcement operation in the field to guard against corruptions, such as bribery and peddling; Legal assistance, including helping government lawyers bring about the prosecution of wildlife offenses and monitoring the legal process at every step (arraignment, trial, sentencing, and incarceration) in order to intercept and combat corruption attempts; and Media including preparing and distributing press releases and encouraging in-country TV news, radio news and the written press to publicize the operational and legal successes, thereby educating the public on the illegality of wildlife poaching and trafficking, demonstrating that the laws are actively enforced, and amplifying the deterrent effect of the legal successes. In 2023, we awarded grans to a number of organizations that operate projects that follow the EAGLE model. Collectively, these organizations operating funded projects, and the overall program itself, is called the EAGLE Network. Before making any grants, the EAGLE US board of directors conducts a pre-grant inquiry to ensure that the proposed grantee will use the grant funds in a manner that exclusively furthers our charitable and educational purposes. These inquiries focus on the identity, prior programmatic history, and experience of the potential grantees and managers. We only make a grant to an organization when we are satisfied that the grantee intends to use and is capable of using the funds in the manner required, in close adherence to the procedures and policies we establish, and that sufficient political stability exists within the country for the funded project be successful. EAGLE US receives and maintains reports from each grantee at least annually on the use of grant funds, the grantee's compliance with the terms of the written grant statement, and the progress made by the grantee toward achieving the purpose for which each grant is made. Schedule F, Part III There are no compensated EAGLE US employees domestically or overseas. The Board members are not paid. The organization makes grants to entities in Africa and these entities pay their employees/contractors through the grants. In 2023 there were 9 individuals who received salaries through the grants.
