First, we completed the core renovation work on our wildlife management site which ensures that we attract significant amounts of wild boar and deer to our field site in Northern California, setting us up for studies of target wild animal movements and behavior which will aid our sterilization efforts. Second, we continued progress on identifying and testing options for multiple vaccine vectors which have the potential to offer single dose sterilization of wild board populations. With the addition of Mo Selman, a senior PhD scientist with past experience at Merk and other high profile vaccine development companies, to our staff, we are well positioned for continued rapid progress towards a single dose sterilant for wild animal populations. Finally, the Foundation continued its direct support of numerous animal rescue and welfare organizations working with local Los Angeles city and county shelters on large scale rehoming and spay/neuter efforts. The accountant that the Tarshis Foundation had used to file returns for the past 10 years (Fenton & Ross) closed his business in 2023 and the Foundation discovered this late and was unable to hire an accountant before the final extended due date for 2022 filing. Adam Tarshis personally prepared and filed the return via mail for 2022 but was unaware of the requirement for charitable organizations to file digitally. He received the notice informing him that the paper submission was rejected on 2/24/2024 despite a postmark on the notice of 2/7/2024. He immediately (the next day - 2/25/2024) identified a suitable e-file option and submitted the return.
