(DVSS) has advanced its work to prevent domestic violence and provide support services for survivors of domestic violence and their children. Services are available twenty four hours a day. Our primary service area is New Hanover County. (Other areas are served as needed.) 0 0 1873021 Our Shelter Program provides a residential setting, offering an array of support services and assistance with necessities (food, medication, personal supplies, clothing, and other related needs.) In FY 2023/2024, shelter was provided for 119 adults and 92 children.In addition to our Shelter Program, overall Support Services include 24-hour crisis intervention, advocacy, material assistance, counseling, criminal justice system support, individualized goal and safety planning, children's programs, and support/education groups. In FY 2023/2024 DVSS provided support services for 1,242 adults and 99 children. (Unduplicated)To help prevent the occurrence of domestic violence and to make the public aware of the resources available to victims and their families, DVSS provides an array of Prevention/Outreach Programs, including community education programs and events, in-service training programs for professionals, school programs (Hands are not for Hitting, Words are not for Hurting, Shifting Boundaries, STARS, and others), and the EVOLVE initiative, focusing on primary prevention initiatives.
