The Organization operates a program that actively seeks donations from the general public via program bulletins and other public media. In addition, the Organization's board members are encouraged to identify and solicit contributions from individuals, companies and other charities. Pathfinders will continue to operate in a fashion that seeks public funding through a variety of sources, including its affiliation with The Palm Beach Post, a major metropolitan newspaper. Pathfinders is presented by The Palm Beach Post. These awards are presented each year to recognize excellence and to encourage these students to one day bring their considerable talents to the communities where each received a start on the path to a good education and a rewarding career. The Pathfinder Scholarship is open to high school students who are enrolled in a full academic core curriculum in an accredited high school program at a public, private, or charter school in Palm Beach or Martin County. Core curriculum includes English, math, science, and social science. The program is not open to students who are enrolled in a home school curriculum. Selection Process A recommendation letter from principal, guidance counselor or teacher which includes: a. A list of nominee's accomplishments, extracurricular activities, and other important achievements. b. A paragraph commenting on future goals with regard to the specified category. c. A list of schools or colleges where the nominee has applied and the nominee's planned course of study. d. Examples of nominee's work or achievements related to category. e. An original transcript. Schedule I Part III Tuition Assistance Determination: The Pathfinder Awards honor students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in academic, vocational and athletic categories. They are sponsored by The Palm Beach Post, which has given out more than $3 million in scholarships since 1984. Each winner has four years to claim the award. Students earn scholarships of $1,500 to $3,000 by placing first through third in a competition decided by personal interviews, transcripts, and letters of recommendation. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 11b The Organization provides a copy of Form 990 to the board of directors at the annual meeting. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12c Each year the Organization obtains a signed copy of its conflict of interest policy and declaration from all board members. Any noted conflicts are then presented and discussed. Form 990, Part VI, Section C, line 19 The Organization makes its governing documents available to the general public upon request. Part XII Line 2A and 2C Pathfinders' financial statements were compiled by a local public accounting firm, however that firm is not independent because it performs certain accounting and bookkeeping services for the Organization. The compilation report is presented by the public accountant to the Organization's board of directors at the annual meeting.
