purchases and contributions since the Societys inception, are not recognized as assets on the Statement of Financial Position. Collections descriptions (Part III, line 4) The Society has been collecting historical artifacts, manuscripts, rare books, and photographs since 1903. Today, the Collection comprises over one million items. Collections include objects across a broad range of categories: fine and decorative art, folk art, photography, domestic artifacts, objects that represent the history of technology and industry, books, manuscripts, maps, and charts. Native and Indigenous material culture, clothing and textiles, and extensive personal, business, and financial records. Collections relate to the Societys mission in one of two ways: either to regional histories or to ocean science and global maritime collections. Endowment funds intended uses (Part V, line 4) The Societys endowment fund is generally donor restricted to support the preservation of the Collection and to provide specific operational support in accordance with donor stipulations.
