We believe art and culture is a uniting medium which transcends political lines and helps people to connect and appreciate each uniqueness. Yet there is a large knowledge gap in the U.S. and around the world about Vietnamese art and culture. Filling this gap will play a part in helping the American public and Vietnamese diaspora move on from the painful past of the Vietnam War. We believe in the transcendent power of art to foster healthy discussions about Vietnamese heritage that ultimately unites and bonds people around common understanding. On 10/1/2023, Vietnam Society hosted a Vietnam Day Celebration of the Mid-Autumn festival at the North Hall, Eastern Market in Washington DC. The celebration included over 20 vendors serving food, dessert and drink items. In addition, there were 3 cooking, arts and cultural demonstrations. The event was opened to the public and had over 2000 attendees. 0 7824 Vietnam Week is Vietnam Society's marquee annual event. Vietnam Week 2023 was held during the first week of October 2023 in partnership with the Kennedy Center, the U.S. Institute of Peace, the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library and the Busboys and Poets. The events were opened to the public and had over 1000 attendees. 0 3088 On 9/30/2023, Vietnam Society presented a discussion panel called "Breaking Through the Bamboo Ceiling: Evolution and Future of Vietnamese in Cinema", followed by the film showing Heaven and Earth.
