<FormAndLineReferenceDesc>EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR NOTE IN REFERENCE TO PART 1, LINE 18 OF 2022 990-EZ</FormAndLineReferenceDesc>
<ExplanationTxt>The most significant aspect of our operations is tied to our grant cycles, which do not always align with the calendar year. This can sometimes lead to deficits occurring at the close of accounting periods which do not always take into effect the grant cycle. However, it's important to understand that these deficits do not reflect poor financial management or an unsustainable financial situation. Rather, it's more of a timing issue associated with the irregular cycles of our grant funding. Grant funders and projects have different start and end dates. In essence, and in line with an accrual accounting method, grant income is recognized when conditions of the grant are met, regardless of when the cash is received. When these conditions are fulfilled outside of the calendar year (our accounting period), it could lead to periods of deficits on our Form 990. However, this does not mean that our organization is in financial distress. Instead, it's a reflection of the nature of our funding model and the timing of when our grant income is recognized. Therefore, while reviewing our Form 990, it's important to not just consider the raw numbers, but to also take into account the explanations provided and the unique context of our nonprofit's operations and funding cycles. Our commitment to full transparency and responsible stewardship of our funding remains as strong as ever. The organization's leadership encourages any public or private individual or entity who may have questions in regards to financial statements or the accounting operations of the nonprofit entity to please contact the leadership team directly.</ExplanationTxt>
