We support the independence of the media and providing a safe working environment for journalists and protect their economic and social rights. We aim to reduce rates of violations against media and expression freedoms, and we support the high professional and ethical standards of media through capacity building programs and technical support. Media and Human Rights Community received funding from UK-based Media Defence to support media and journalism freedoms in Egypt through legal support to journalists and media professionals, capacity building for lawyers on media rights issues, and legal research. This included monthly and quarterly legal reports and an annual report on our legal support and legal trends related to the media environment. We also received support contributing to our legal support to journalists and media professionals, which helped 21 individuals in criminal cases and 26 individuals with labor disputes in court and within the journalist's syndicate. 46153 X 42791 Media and Human Rights Community received funding the National Endowment for Democracy, an international donor funded by the United States Congress, to monitor press and media freedoms in Egypt. We monitored, documented and reported on 335 violations against journalists and media professionals in Egypt, including 72 cases of arbitrary dismissals, 132 cases of unlawful withheld salary, and 44 unlawful renewed detentions. We disseminated this information through 12 monthly reports, 4 quarterly reports, and 1 annual report. 32500 32500 Media and Human Rights Community received funding from the Czech-based People in Need to provide legal support to ensure the respect of journalism and media freedoms in Egypt. This included producing a special report on media violations that took place during the 2023 elections. We received support contributing to our legal support to journalists and media professionals, which helped 21 individuals in criminal cases and 26 individuals with labor disputes in court and within the journalist's syndicate. Labor issues included arbitrary dismissals, withholding salary, and arbitrary refusals to accept journalists into the syndicate. For criminal issues, we were able to help 8 individuals get released from detention, one individual to receive a not guilty verdict, and one individual have the case against them thrown out, among others. 11490 X 11490 Media and Human Rights Community received additional funding from Czech-based People in Need to support independent media within Egypt. This included a series of workshops that supported over 60 new journalists on media skills and professionalism, veteran journalists on remaining safe during their work, and lawyers on media laws and legal skills on media cases. We also helped launch a network of lawyers and media professionals to coordinate advocacy efforts on media rights issues. We filed form 8868 and it was accepted. I started a new job at the time of filing and was unable to work through this all and get everything I needed from partners in time. We now have a system in place to make sure we complete 2024's Form 990 EZ quickly.
