For emergency assistance, the payment is made directly to the physician, pharmacy, landlord, etc. For energy assistance, the payment is made directly to the respective utility. The bill/invoice determines the amount and the recipient. There is no need to monitor the use (once the recipient is deemed elgible by the organization) since the payment is made directly to the vendor/service provider and the product or services were rendered either in advance or with the payment. Because Lupus disproportionately affects People of color, 83% of our assistance funding and education services were used for these communities.
