Within the veterans community, efforts help economically disadvantaged, homeless, elderly, disabled & their children. Each month, the team travels two times to 1 of 12 locations in San Diego County to provide 24 food distributions with groceries & assistance items to thousands each year. Also, the team partners with U.S. Dept of Veterans Affairs to deliver dietary-approved groceries monthly to 8 clinics & other service locations within the San Diego County area in support of the local VA's "Food Empowerment Program" for those with medical conditions worsened by food insecurity, including homeless veterans. Our Care4Warriors project provides specially-packed groceries & basic needs for homeless veterans at Veteran homeless events and special distributions serving over 1800 each year. Pantry4Warriors helps keep food on-hand for direct support, including a daily "Safe Pantry Pick-Up" with pre-packed groceries for families. From job support through Work4Warriors services with assessments, educational and informational forums, seminars and workshops that lead veterans to prosperous outcomes, efforts bring together tools and resources covering topics, such as, budget and financial training, job and career assistance, military-to-civilian assistance, veteran owned business opportunities and sessions that help remove roadblocks to initiatives that help self-reliance transcend to prosperity in the lives of those who have given of themselves in service of our country and their families. These services were provided at in-person offerings and virtual sessions online. These services not only help veterans seeking career changes, but also active-duty military who are transitioning to civilian life and reintegrating into the communities where they choose to live. These adjustments were due to exceptional circumstances brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, requiring us to manage unexpected expenses and temporary revenue losses. In 2023, the lingering effects of the pandemic and post-pandemic economic strains continued to impact our organization. We experienced a shortfall in donations while simultaneously facing an increased demand for our programs. Additionally, we had to make the difficult decision to let a majority of our support staff go due to funding constraints, further straining our resources. Despite these challenges, we transitioned most of our employment support services to online resources and direct support virtually, ensuring continued support for our beneficiaries. To meet the increased demand for our services, including food support services, we refined our approach by enhancing our volunteer program and management practices. We relied more on dedicated volunteer team leaders, established workshare partnerships, and engaged work study volunteers. Our Board of Doers (Directors) also played an active role in supporting program fulfillment, ensuring that we maintained our program effectiveness despite reduced staffing levels. Additionally, significant resource building in 2022 helped sustain our programs during 2023. By investing in better equipment and furnishings, we increased our capabilities and reduced the need to purchase consumables, supporting our changes in business practices. This adjustment has been thoroughly reviewed and confirmed for accuracy, reflecting our commitment to transparent and responsible financial reporting. Despite these challenges, our financial position remains strong, and we are well-prepared to continue our important work in the community. Filing is not late. An extension was submitted and approved.
