When the Owen Brown Gravesite Committee approves an expense, funds are transferred to our active checking account, and payment is made. Part X, Line 21 Owen Brown Gravesite Committee Fund Manager (One time project): We received a one time deposit of $251,219 for the benefit of the Owen Brown Gravesite Committee from the County of Los Angeles. We have agreed to manage and disburse their program funds on behalf of the Los Angeles Board of Supervisor's Contract Number TF-05-3565. We are custodian's of these funds but do not use or spend them on our programs. The Owen Brown Gravesite Committee Board of Directors, monthly advises us of their expenses, and we make payment on their behalf from this special account, set up under the guidance of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. The Owen Brown Gravesite Committee is a community group which includes: a member of the Altadena Town Council, a member of the Altadena Heritage, an Altadena resident with knowledge of Altadena trails and open space efforts, and a member of the Meadows residential area. These committee members are confirmed by The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and meetings are facilitated by The Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning. The purpose of the Owen Brown Gravesite Committee is to establish, preserve, and maintain a memorial site known as the Owen Brown Gravesite, in accordance with Los Angeles Countys Conditional Use Permit 2007-00114. The Owen Brown Gravesite Committee meets at a minimum of once per year. Meetings are open to the public and are noticed pursuant to Brown Act requirements. Part III, Line 4d Altadena Heritage Ongoing Projects: Remaining program expenses were the result of the following: Newsletters: We research, write, publish, and distribute informative newsletters to our membership. Topics include Fire Safety, Historical Presentations, Land Use, and community discussions. Old Marengo Park Maintenance: We take care of a derelict piece of property, a small park. We planted trees for shade, and pay for monthly cleaning and yearly tree maintenance. Monte Cedro Lectures: We provide lectures to a retirement community for the education and entertainment of their residents. Annual Meeting and Patron's Event: We host an annual meeting for our membership to discuss accomplishments and planning for the next year. We provide historical posters, entertainment, and and food, at no charge to our members. Third Thursdays Talks: We provide a free lecture to the community at large from the Altadena Community Center auditorium. New Residents: We invite new residents to a meeting to provide them community resources and chances for engagement.
