Form 990-EZ, Part III, line 28, Program Service Accomplishments: Boating Programs: The annual summer Sailing School program enrolled 16 adults who met 2 evenings a week for 7 weeks. And 167 Youths ranging in ages from 8 - 16. The youth sailing school includes beginner, intermediate and advanced racing. The Youth beginner/intermediate classes offer 8 weekly sessions meeting each day Monday - Friday during the day. The Youth advanced racing meets twice per week in the afternoons. The sailing school employs 12 instructors, most of whom learned to sail in the Leatherlips Sailing program. 0 Form 990-EZ, Part III, line 29, Program Service Accomplishments: Leisure, Recreational and Safety Activities: Our social activities during the year include weekly club regattas on Sundays and a series of 4 holiday regattas. There are 2-3 races in each regatta. Club regattas are run by members, including safety support. The club hosts picnics following each holiday club regatta, weekly Friday night potlucks during the sailing season, and a Commodore's reception. There are 2 annual work parties, where members provide the man-power needed to open the facility (clubhouse, grounds, and docks) in the spring and close it in the fall. 0 Form 990-EZ, Part III, line 30, Program Service Accomplishments: Sports Competitions Programs: Leatherlips High School Sailing program offers spring and fall sessions. We offer the program to 10 area high schools. In 2023, there were 16 students in the spring and 25 students in the fall. They practiced twice a week in the afternoon and competed in ISSA sanctioned regattas on weekend days or JV scrimmage regattas on Thursday evenings with the Hoover Sailing Club high school sailing teams. There is also a junior racing program made up of club members who practice at Leatherlips and travel to regional regattas. Various fleets hosted regional regattas at Leatherlips as part of traveling regatta programs. We are an entirely volunteer organization and the treasurer position has been especially difficult to fill. We have had 4 treasurers in the last 5 years, some of whom didnt have a good knowledge of tax filings (including myself). The most recent treasurer was also challenged with the use of Quickbooks and the various online platforms required for the position, which made the transition to me difficult, there was also some confusion during this time related to whether an extension had been filed. Since realizing the lapse, I have been working diligently to pull together the information and start the filing process. I am experiencing a steep learning curve related to the treasurer position and have been creating a treasures handbook. I will make sure filing dates and procedures are covered. Again, I apologize for neglecting to file or request an extension, and I will do what I can to prevent this in the future.
