The BPLF actively supports the Berkeley Public Library in revamping and renovating its spaces. Current efforts include upgrading furniture, technology, and lighting at the four neighborhood libraries, redesigning the Central Librarys 4th-floor story room, and completing refurbishments at the North and Claremont Branches. Additionally, new laptop kiosks have been installed at the West and North Branches, a phone charging station has been added at the Central Library, and a comfortable social service area has been established to enhance community outreach efforts. Program 2. INNOVATION & INCLUSION. The BPLF advances the Berkeley Public Library's mission by supporting equity, diversity, and inclusion through librarian-led initiatives. This year, we funded sewing machines and materials for classes, which have been met with great success. We expanded the discussion book bundle series on racial equity and identity and supported a personal hygiene kit pilot project initiated by the library's first-ever social worker. Hygiene essentials like soap, shampoo, and sanitary products are available at all library locations. Program 3. LITERACY. The BPLF continues to support literacy through Berkeley Builds Readers, which extends literacy resources, tutoring, and storytime programming to underserved areas. New creative software and a Moog music machine have enhanced digital and art literacy. BPLF staff meet on a regular basis with the Berkeley Public Library staff to review the status of projects and receive progress and budget to actual reporting on a regular basis. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11b BPLF's CPA prepares the draft of the 990. The draft is first reviewed by the Executive Director, Bookkeeper and Accountant. The draft is then reviewed by the Treasurer, Finance and Executive Committees and then distributed to the Board of Directors for review and approval before filing. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12c The Board of Directors review any potential conflicts of interest at least annually. All Board Members and Staff are required to disclose in writing potential conflicts and any related party affiliations.
