For direct rental assistance, the resident must have lived in Clarewood House for at least one year to be eligible to apply for assistance. The resident completes an application form. The application asks for income information and monthly expenses. Proof of expenses and income is required by providing: bank statements, invoices, and income tax returns. Additionally, there are questions about total assets owned. (House, stocks, etc.) The committee first determines if there are more monthly expenses than income. The committee will also review the assets owned if there is a living spouse, enough monies for a funeral, and other criteria. The intent is to subsidize the monthly rent so they do not have to leave their home at Clarewood for a lower-cost facility. Clarewood's conflict of interest policy guides how conflicts are enforced and addressed. If the governing board decides to consider a transaction involving a conflict, the conflicting member is excluded from both final deliberations and voting.
