A community wide campaign was held in 2007 to ensure that the cultural assets, which have a national significance, be retained and preserved locally for future generations. The society raised $1.2 million dollars to purchase rugs, paintings, photographs, and other artifacts. In addition, the society raised funds for the restoration and conservation of these art treasures. These artifacts have been made available to the public through special exhibitions at the museums and an area university. Other items have been placed in public facilities for continual viewing such as banks and historic preservation facilities. Parts of the collection have also been loaned to organizations outside the area for temporary viewing. The other members of the board are designated by the governor. The board meets on a monthly basis and is open to any member to attend. Membership meetings are held 4 times a year to provide input from the general membership. Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 7a Yes, the general membership elects the executive committee which consists of the: Governor, Vice-Governor, Scribe (Secretary), and the Tithesman (Treasurer). Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 7b Yes, other than the election of the executive committee, the general membership also votes on the grants that are issued each year. We also ask for a motion and acceptance of the motion for the Scribe and Tithesman's reports at each of the membership meetings. It is also stated on our website that Form 990 is available for review upon request to one of the officers of the organization. Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19 Periodic Financial Statements are printed and given to members at each of the 4 meetings held throughout the year. These statements include a Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss Statement with comparative data for each of the last two years. A copy of the Profit and Loss Statement for the fiscal year is also included in the annual newsletter, which is sent to all members.
