Form 990, Part II, Line 4A, Program Service Accomplishments (cont.): 1.Educational Outreach and Student Engagement:FoLAR effectively educated and engaged over 7,000 Los Angeles students and community members annually, emphasizing the LA River's ecological importance. Programs facilitated direct student interactions with the river, deepening their understanding of its ecosystem, biodiversity significance, and the impacts of human activities on river health.2.Community Activation and Environmental Stewardship:Organized significant urban River cleanups, with the 2022 event mobilizing 1,719 volunteers to remove 50,363 lbs of trash and the 2023 event engaging 1,302 volunteers to clear 4,151 lbs of trash. Monthly habitat restoration and community events saw participation from 875 volunteers, promoting sustainable practices and fostering stewardship for the LA River's ecological health and aesthetics.3.Workforce Development and Leadership Training:Launched the River Fellows program, offering 30 underrepresented youth pathways into the green workforce. The initiative focuses on environmental leadership, providing essential skills for climate resilience and equity advocacy.4.Community Awareness and Engagement:Hosted events attracting 3,389 participants in 2023, enhancing community awareness and support for the LA River's restoration. These gatherings highlighted the river's significance in climate adaptation and public health, reinforcing community commitment to its preservation. Under article III, section 2, a person who has a financial interest may have a conflict of interest only if the appropriate governing board or committee decides that a conflict of interest exists.In connection with any actual or possible conflict of interest, an interested person must disclose the existence of the financial interest and be given the opportunity to disclose all material facts to the directors and members of committees with governing board delegated powers considering the proposed transaction or arrangement. After disclosure of the financial interest and all material facts, and after any discussion with the interested person, he/she shall leave the governing board or committee meeting while the determination of a conflict of interest is discussed and voted upon.
