A reference check is also conducted to confirm that the potential local agent is a person of integrity. Local agents are then asked to follow strict criteria in identifying potential grant recipients who have urgent needs in the areas of health education and housing. Potential grant recipients must have personal references that date back at least one year and they are disqualified if they received a grant from Especially The Family at any time in the past. Once a grant has been awarded the local agent is required to assist the grant recipient in applying the funds provided to exactly the need that was communicated in the potential grant recipient's initial need profile.
