In addition English training was provided to all 42 local teaching staff. Approximately 800 unpaid international volunteers participated in helping teach writing, reading, listening, speaking, grammar and phonics. 190503 184739 0 Food and medical aid: Approximately 3000 families (about 8,750 individuals) were provided rice. Many also were provided additional food - canned fish, fish sauce and soy sauce. From September hot meal services were provided monthly to 160 Elderly villagers. TASSEL teachers also took the sick to appropriate domestic medical centers and paid for their hospital bills as well as travel and meal expenses. As in all years, all persons who received food and medical aid in 2023 were pre-screened carefully through family visits and confirmed beforehand that aid was critical. 17945 17945 0 Sponsorships: 8 families (19 persons) were provided monthly cash support.Sponsored families are the poorest among TASSEL's aid recipients and were selected through extensive interviews. Their situation is reviewed monthly through visits. In addition to families, selected donors sponsored a trip for the 42 local teachers as well as provided specific gifts to 28 local villagers and teachers. For (2) Food/medical aid and (3) sponsorships, local TASSEL teachers physically visit all families regularly and conduct interviews to determine physical need. Some gifts are designated specifically by donors. For (2), rice, canned fish, soy sauce and fish sauce is physically hand given to the families to ensure the food is delivered to the intended recipient. As well, 160 Elderly people, selected through family visits, have been invited to our schools monthly since September to receive hot meals. Medical aid is provided by TASSEL teachers physically taking the patients to treatment centers, talking with the doctors, and making payments directly to the facilities on their behalf. For (3), gift is hand delivered. Every donation and expense is recorded and made available on TASSEL's website. All donations and expenses are in cash and all cash is reconciled to bank statements. All receipts are kept and are available on request.
