All these programs work to bring communities across Southwest Virginia, Western North Carolina and Northeast Tennessee together to work for peace and justice. One active campaign includes research, education, and activism regarding a nuclear weapons permit in the region. APEC does citizen science and original research regarding water testing, soil testing, and airborne pollution. APEC organizes through a Racial Justice initiative to educate and make changes in the community. The program brings together local business, churches, schools, and more to establish best practices for dismantling racism and building healthy racial relationships. APEC works to build bridges accross different populations to work toward solutions to common problems. APEC's programs include Peaceful Planet initiative, Racial Justice and the Rural Urban Bridge Initiative. With the Peaceful Planet Initiative, APEC member raised awareness, demonstrated advocacy, and education for community safety regarding our opposition to the license amendment to process weapons grade uranium in our community. Through rallies, hearings, marches, press conferences, and meetings, we educated the community about the health impacts, safety concerns, and weapons proliferation. 85 people attended our People's Hearing, 424 signed our petition, and 515 people participated in the campaign. Through our Racial Justice Initiative, we organized various events for education and action. a total of 314 people were reached with this program. We partnered with local schools, universities, churches, and other civic organizations. The Rural Urban Bridge Initiative worked to bridge diverse opinions around identity, geography and ideologies.
