The work of photojournalists, especially those who focus on in-depth stories, is at risk of being lost to history as a result of the rapid decline of newspapers and the fact that most online publications do not archive the images, preserving only the written word. This was our first year as a nonprofit. We have been able to complete the development project, initiate a partnership with a university, develop a prototype for the archive and begin gathering the work of photographers. We have also established systems to digitize and preserve the images that will be in in the archive. This was our first year as a nonprofit project. It was a development year and as such we worked on getting the project clearly defined, acquiring and implementing the systems to create and support the archive, creating the necessarily partnerships, relationships within the photojournalism community, and most significantly, building the prototype for the archive that we plan on launching in 2024. We did reach out to a dozen photojournalists who have agreed to participate in the project. They are and will benefit from the archive preserving their work, however that work is not available to the public yet. As executive director, I spoke to photojournalism students at the University of Missouri about our project and the need to preserve photojournalism. All the donations we received in 2022 were held by the Fiscal Sponsor, and we requested the funds as needed in 2023 (totally $52,014.94). We only received $100 in donations in 2023, and that too was given to and held by our Fiscal Sponsor. Donations to the Fiscal Sponsor are the only funding we have received for our nonprofit.
