The work in Thailand continues, including the operation of schools, clean water projects, the planting of Mango trees in various villages to allow nationals to generate a sustainable income & the operation of various medical clinics. They continue to operate several children's dormitories where they educate & shelter vulnerable orphans (many from Myanmar) as well as other at risk children who wouldn't have an opportunity for school. In Myanmar the ongoing civil war still prevents workers from entering the country whie every effort is made to get financial gifts to the pastors & other workers in various regions. The churches planted to date have stepped up to care for the sick with the Bethseda House of Mercy Health Care Clinic established in the Kachin State, in Myitkyina, still open. Doctors & nurse who have refused to work for the military are in hiding with warrants for their arrest. Much of the work focus has to be on caring for displaced & sick people courtesy of Covid & ongoing military bombings. But schools are open & with financial gifts the national workers are doing their best to meet needs, setting up field hospitals in many places. 778 0 -778 GlobalTREK: The work we are engaged in at present is the training & preparing of a team that will travel to Kenya in July of 2024. We look forward to putting a team back in the field to help our national partners in their work throughout the Mathare Valley slums. With the time remaining before the project we are able to recruit more individuals, look for financial partners & better train the short-term mission team. As a result we will be prepared to do even more work once we arrive in Nairobi. We will be working with the school established in the community of Mabatini, teaching, introducing a music program to the school among other things. We will have contractors on hand for various construction needs both at the school & in the shanty homes. We will continue to evangelize in the community & even now we have volunteers collecting & assembling gifts of toiletries for families, care packages for new mothers as well as much needed supply packages for the school teachers. This trip we will also be bringing a mental health workshop to assist teachers in identifying problems, helping parents know how to help their children (as well as how to cope themselves) & we will also reach out to the team of social workers (Kenyan nationals, trained specifically to help individual communities - where they also live). The social workers might need to care for a couple hundred people at a time with anything from marital counseling to compassionate care of those sick with AIDS (and now Covid). They also keep track of who is sick, see that they are cared for, fed & deliver medications when available. Depression is a very real issue among this group of workers & we are training to be an encouragement & bring needed resources. We aren't actively support raising yet as we won't begin until the team is finalized. And since volunteers are taking on the project of preparing gift bag resources, we haven't had any expenses in this fiscal year.
