These funds may only be used to cover costs of fixing damage to residential units beyond ordinary wear and tear by the tenant who provided the deposit. Any unused security deposit must be returned to the tenant upon the termination of the tenant's rental services. Part X, Line 2: The Organization is organized as a Kansas nonprofit corporation and has been recognized by the IRS as exempt from federal income taxes under IRC Section 501(a) as an organization described in IRC Section 501(c)(3). Further, the Organization qualifies for the charitable contribution deduction under IRC Sections 170(b)(1)(A)(vi) and has been determined not to be a private foundation under IRC Sections 509(a)(1). The Organization is annually required to file a Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax (Form 990) with the IRS. In addition, the Organization is subject to income tax on net income that is derived from business activities that are unrelated to its exempt purposes. For the years ended June 30, 2023 and 2022, the Organization has determined that it is not subject to unrelated business income tax and has not filed an Exempt Organization Business Income Tax Return (Form 990-T) with the IRS. Returns filed by the Organization are subject to IRS examination, generally for three years after each return is filed. No taxing authorities have commenced income tax examinations for open tax years. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 11b A draft copy of IRS Form 990 is presented to the board of directors. The document is approved by the board and signed by the executive director. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12c The Organization's governing board members and employees are asked to disclose in writing any conflicts of interest on an annual basis. These written disclosures are vetted by the executive director and are on file at the business office. Any board members with a conflict must abstain from voting. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 15 The board of directors approves the compensation of the executive director and approves the annual budget which considers the compensation of other key positions. Other forms of compensation, such as bonuses, are approved through board action based on recommendation of the executive director. No board members are compensated for their service.
