The Conference serves as a catalyst for further recognition of Transylvania County as a distinguished community rich in culture and learning opportunities for people of all ages. J.R. MCDOWELL SPEAKER SERIES: The series is designed to present a wide array of viewpoints on challenging and thought-provoking topics and to bring renowned speakers to our community. In September 2022, the Foundation presented a talk by Admiral James Stavridis, and in April 2023, presented a talk by the writer Kelly Corrigan. In addition to the public event, McDowell speakers meet with local students. YOUTH SERVICES: The Transylvania County Library Foundation partnered with the Friends of the Transylvania County Library to provide funding for an children's area updates in the library. The refreshed space includes new furniture and activities to support active learning, and to encourage children and families to spend time together reading and learning in the library. The Library Foundation also provided funding for the installation of three StoryWalks throughout the county.
